Junior bats are sized 1 to 6 based on your child’s height, not age
alone — a bat that’s too long or heavy will hurt technique more than
it helps power. As a rough guide, sizes 1–3 suit players under 4’6″,
sizes 4–5 suit 4’6″–5’2″, and size 6 (or Harrow) suits players
approaching adult height before moving into a full-size bat.
Kashmir willow is a durable, affordable choice for younger players
still developing technique; English willow offers better performance
as a player progresses but comes at a higher price point and needs
proper knocking-in before match use.
